Your Balance

Balance the Length of Carbide with the Number of Studs

Woody's® traction and control systems comprise both studs and runners. The amount of studs to install is dependant on the make and model of the snowmobile and consideration to the riding terrain and the drivers' skill. The amount of turning carbide installed should compliment or balance the control provided by the studs. When you determine the most effective traction and control system for your sled, you will never be without Woody's® traction products again. Woody's® will continue to work on new and inventive products to enhance the safety of your snowmobile riding experience.

Woody's® Research and Development Department has always known that any snowmobile driver will have a much better chance of avoiding an accident or maintaining control of the snowmobile if the vehicle can be adjusted and controlled at an optimum. The ability to control a snowmobile involves three major factors, turning, acceleration and deceleration. Woody's® traction and control systems are designed to improve turning, acceleration and deceleration at an optimum, under the conditions the snowmobiler is riding.

The steering or turning force is generated through the interaction of the surface of the ski and the surface of the trail. A ski all by itself is not designed to provide steering traction on a hard-packed or icy surface. When negotiating a curve, if there is not enough grip between the ski and the hard-packed or icy trail surface, the snowmobile will try to go straight or tangent to the curve unless there is a turning force exerted on the snowmobile ski. Woody's® carbide runners provide the added grip and turning force needed to optimize the operators control in a variety of conditions.

In addition to the carbide runners, studs also must be considered. Increasing friction between the track and the ground surface is the major advantages of installing Woody's® studs. The more available friction, the quicker the snowmobile will stop and accelerate. Another major advantage is the ability to maintain control should the sled begin to slide. Without a studded track, and irregularities in the icy terrain or weight shift of the rider or passenger could cause loss of control of the snowmobile. Woody's® developed their line of studs to help increase the snowmobile riders' ability to maintain control of the machine.
